Clams Casino is Michael Volpe, a producer from Nutley, New Jersey, whose hazy, choir-and-808 sound helped define what became known as cloud rap. Around April 2009 he built 'I'm God' at home around a sample of British singer Imogen Heap's 2005 song 'Just for Now' and emailed it to rapper Lil B after reaching him through MySpace; Lil B's version appeared on the 6 Kiss mixtape that December, and the beat became Volpe's best-known work. Imogen Heap liked what he had done with her voice and was happy for it to be released as long as she was credited, and the instrumental was finally released officially on 24 April 2020 on the compilation Instrumental Relics, going on to be certified Gold in the US in 2024. Volpe also produced 'Palace' and 'Demons' on A$AP Rocky's breakthrough LIVE.LOVE.A$AP.
